The Zions Bank Anytime Interest Checking® Account is an interest-bearing checking account offering flexible money management solutions through online and mobile banking, discounts on check orders and safe deposit boxes, and one monthly out-of-network ATM fee waiver. You can also earn rewards when shopping with your Visa through Zions Amazing Deals.

This checking account might be right for someone living in Idaho or Utah, where the bank has its branches. However, since the APY rates don't increase as your balance increases, you might find a better deal elsewhere. So, if your bank's physical location is of none importance for you and your banking needs, you might want to consider another interest-bearing checking account.

Zions Bank Anytime Interest Checking® Account FAQ

1. What do I need to open Anytime Interest Checking®?

You need to be at least 18 years old, and provide your:

  • name,
  • home address,
  • email address,
  • date of birth,
  • Social Security number,
  • phone number,
  • name of employer,
  • occupation, and
  • account information for a deposit - you will need to make an initial $50 deposit to open the Anytime Interest Checking® account.
2. What is a combined deposit and consumer loan balance?

In order to have your monthly fee waived, you need to keep a daily balance of $1,500 or more in your account or have at least $10,000 in a combined deposit and consumer loan balance.

A combined deposit and consumer loan balance includes money from all your linked Zions Bank accounts. When it comes to deposits, eligible accounts are checking, savings, money market, CD, and IRA. While for loans, we have auto, credit card, credit lines, home equity loans, home refinance, and installment loans. Mortgage loans aren't included.

3. When do I start earning interest?

You will start earning interest as soon as the initial deposit has been processed, which usually happens the same or next business day following receipt.

4. What is the difference between interest rates and APY?

Interest rates apply on your balance (the principal), and it's how much you earn on it over a period of time. Simply put, if you have $1,000 with the interest rate of 15%, you will earn $150/year.

Annual Percentage Yield or APY is also how much you gain, including compound interest, which is calculated on the principal and the interest accumulated over the previous period. This is why APY is usually higher than the interest rate. APY is the real rate of return on your deposit. The more frequently interest is compounded, the better return will be - as it adds up to previous amounts which are higher thanks to compounding.

5. How can I grow my savings?

You can earn more interest with Zions Bank if you choose to add a savings or money market account at the time of application. The savings account comes with a $3 monthly fee, which can be avoided, while a money market account has no monthly fees. Rates applied are variable, currently set to 0.03%, and 0.02%-0.10% for savings, and money market accounts, respectively.

6. How can I order discounted checks?

You must order them through Zions Bank if you want to get a discount. You can do so online, in your local branch or by contacting Zions Bank's customer support center at 801-974-8800.

7. How do I avoid paper statement fees?

To avoid paper statement fees, you need to enroll in Online Banking first. Once you've signed in to your account, you'll be able to opt out of paper statements, and choose to receive either electronic statements or paper account notices and tax documents at no extra cost.

8. How do mobile check deposits work?

Zions Bank allows you to use your mobile device to deposit check, which saves you time, as you don't need to visit a local branch. To make a mobile check deposit, you will need to download Zions Bank's mobile app first. Then, all you need to do is take a photo of your check deposit, and submit it through your mobile phone. Some deposit limits apply, based on length of oldest deposit account relationship.
