5. Why are Comerica overdraft fees and NSF fees variable?

The overdraft fees and NSF fees are set by Comerica based on the number of times you overdraw your account or are unable to cover an amount written on a check. The more frequently it happens, the more you'll pay. This is, relatively speaking, a good thing, as it should serve to keep you more vigilant, and responsible with your money.

Whether it be overdraft fees or NSF fees, Comerica Bank will charge you $26 the first time, $34 the second, third, and fourth time, and $38 for the fifth or any following occurrence.

6. What is a High-Yield Money Market Investment Account (HY MMIA)?

A High-Yield Money Market Investment Account is Comerica's savings account available to Comerica Platinum Circle Checking® accountholders free of charge.

This account offers tiered interest rates, which are currently set as follows:

  • for balances between $1 - $49,999 => 0.10%,

8. What is a certificate of deposit?

A certificate of deposit is a savings account where money is held for a certain period of time, and payable at maturity, a date when the life of your financial product ends, and when you can take money out of your account without penalties. Comerica offers fixed-rate certificates of deposit, meaning these have set interest rates applied during the entire agreed term. Whether it be one year or longer, a minimum opening deposit of $1,000 is required. Depending on the amount kept in your balance, and the number of days elapsed, an APY applies, which is, of course, higher over time.
