securely on the bank's website

The Frost Plus Checking Account is an interest-bearing checking account that, unlike the Frost Personal Account or the U25 Frost Personal Account, doesn't have any minimum balance requirements to start earning interest.

For a low, but waivable monthly fee, you'll get to enjoy all the things you need for safe and convenient daily banking, in addition to a few free perks, such as free bank stock checks, cashier's checks, and money orders! You'll also be able to open as many Frost Bank Savings accounts as you want - with no monthly fees! This might be an option to consider if you prefer having a somewhat restricted access to your savings funds, especially if you're planning a big purchase, a trip or something else some time in the future. By keeping your savings in a savings account, you will be less tempted to spend them. You can also take advantage of the Frost Bank Savings Account to link it to your primary, Frost Plus Account for overdraft protection. In case you even run out of money in your Frost Plus Account balance, the funds will be automatically transferred from your savings account to your checking account, so you'll avoid overdraft fees!

With or without a savings account, the Frost Bank Plus Account is a good banking solution whatsoever. With Frost Bank Online and Mobile Banking, you'll be able to access and manage your Frost Plus Account wherever you are, whenever you want. These digital tools let you organize your money, so you stay on top of your finances 24/7. Thanks to custom account alerts, you'll be able to keep an eye on potential suspicious activities that might occur due to identity theft. This is, of course, not to say Frost Bank has not taken the necessary measures to ensure the safety and protection of its customers and their financial information. To the contrary, there are many enhanced security features in place, so you can bank safely, knowing you're as protected against financial fraud as possible. However, keeping your personal and financial information is also your responsibility, so it's up to you to whom you disclose this information, and where you access your Frost Plus checking account online. Never leave your window session logged on, especially not in a public place! Never use a public WiFi to access your bank account either.

While it's crucial that you stay prudent when banking online, security and potential troubles should not prevent you from using digital banking. Since it's so convenient and easy to perform basic banking tasks online, there's no reason why you should avoid it. In Frost Bank Online and Mobile Banking, you'll be able to check your balance, transfer funds between your internal and external bank accounts, send money to other people and businesses, pay your bills, deposit checks, set up account notifications, and more. With so many things you can do from the comfort of your home, you won't even have to think about having to visit a local Frost Bank branch just to, say, pay your utility bills. However, if you ever need assistance, you can always reach out to Frost Bank's award-winning customer service as there's a 24/7 phone line available with Frost Bank bankers there to help you.

Another major advantage of the Frost Bank Plus Account is that Frost won't charge you fees when using out-of-network ATMs! Additionally, if the ATM owner does charge you a surcharge fee, Frost Bank will reimburse you up to $5 per month! Yet, since you'll receive a free debit card you can use for both online and in-store purchases, you might not even need to withdraw cash at ATMs whatsoever. But, it's good to know that you can save quite a few extra bucks with this checking account.

Speaking of common banking fees, we've already mentioned overdraft and NSF fees, which you can avoid by opting for an overdraft protection plan. But, probably the best way to go would be to keep an eye on your Frost Plus Account balance by reviewing it regularly and setting up alerts to notify you of recent transactions and purchases, so you always know when's the time to fund your account, and never overdraw it.

With so many features and free perks the Frost Bank Plus Account offers, it's a good checking account option to consider, even if you don't meet the monthly fee waiver requirements. So, if you're looking for a checking account that pays interest, has outstanding customer support, and offers plenty of perks others usually have to pay for, then the Frost Plus might be just what you need!

Frost Bank Frost Plus Checking Account FAQ

1. How can I open a Frost Plus Account?

You can apply for a Frost Plus Checking Account online, by clicking the "APPLY NOW" button available on this page. You'll be taken to the Frost Bank website, where you'll be able to complete the application form safely.

You'll be asked to provide your:

  • personal information (your name, citizenship, Social Security Number, date of birth, occupation, employer, email),
  • contact information (home address and phone number),
  • ID (your driver's license, military ID or a valid government-issued ID, including its issue and expiration dates).

You'll also be asked to read and accept the bank's fine print before you proceed. You'll also need to provide your credit or debit card number or a bank account number to make the opening deposit.

2. What is a combined balance required to have the monthly fee on the Frost Plus Account waived?

One of the option to avoid the $15 monthly fee on the Frost Plus Checking Account is to maintain a minimum $5,000 combined average daily balance in your Frost Bank bank accounts. This means the total amount to maintain in these accounts for the monthly fee waiver should be $5,000. The eligible accounts you can have include Frost Bank personal checking account, savings accounts, money market accounts, CDs and/or IRAs.

The average daily balance is calculated by adding the principal in these accounts for each day of the statement period, and then diving the amount by the number of days in the same period.

3. How can I earn interest on my Frost Plus Account balance?

With a Frost Plus Account, you don't have to meet any minimum balance requirements to start earning interest. As long as you keep your account open and in good standing, you'll earn interest. Currently, an APY of 0.01% applies. Frost Bank uses the daily balance method to calculate the interest on your account, and the interest is compounded and credited to your Frank Plus Account each month.

4. What are the fees charged by other ATM owners?

When you access an ATM that's in your bank's network, you are almost never charged any ATM usage fees. With Frost, you can access over 1,200 fee-free ATMs.

However, when using an out-of-network ATM to check your balance or make a transaction, such as money withdrawal, your bank or financial institution will charge you a fee. As a Frost Plus Account customer, you won't have to pay these fees at all, which means you can access any ATM with no Frost Bank fees. That said, the ATM owner, which can be a bank or ATM network, might still charge you for using their ATMs. While Frost Bank is not in control of those fees, Frost will refund you up to $5 each month when you use an out-of-network ATM, and are charged extra.

Use Frost Bank's branch and ATM locator to find their ATMs, so you know where you can get cash completely free of charge.

5. What overdraft protection plans are available with my Frost Plus Account?

You can choose to link a savings account or a personal line of credit to your Frost Plus Account, so, in case there's not enough money in your Frost Plus checking account balance, the funds will be automatically transferred from your linked account to your Frost Plus Account balance. This way, you'll be able to complete the transaction without incurring overdraft or NSF fees. You can ask a Frost banker for more information about their overdraft protection plans.

6. What's included in the Frost Bank Savings account offer?

In order to prevent fraudulent activities, Frost Bank lets you turn on instant alerts to receive notifications when some of the following 6 transactions are made:

  • declined transactions,
  • online purchases,
  • transactions out of the United States,
  • pay-at-the-pump transactions,
  • purchase over a specific amount,
  • ATM withdrawals.

Since these transactions are quite risky, the best way to prevent having your identity or bank information stolen is to turn all of these notifications on, so you can always know what's going on with your account.
