securely on the bank's website

The First Republic Classic Checking is a regular checking account with a waivable $25 monthly fee, and a high minimum opening deposit when compared with other traditional checking accounts.

Featuring digital banking tools, including a great-looking mobile banking app with dedicated support, this checking account might be a solid way for you to bank while on the go, knowing there's always an expert to help you instantly in case you need it. You can use First Republic Online and Mobile Banking for all kinds of banking tasks. You can access your account from the comfort of your home, whether it be to check your balances or transaction history, find or deposit checks, transfer money or manage your account information. If you're a started in the digital banking world, and would like to learn more about how you can fully take advantage of First Republic Digital Banking, you can always get in touch with one of their Digital Specialists. They can help you get started, set up your First Republic online account, explore features and options, but also ensure your online account is safe and secure. You can get a free cyber security check-up, and learn about recommended safety measures you can take to stay protected online.

When you open a First Republic Classic Checking, you'll receive a free ATM/Debit card, equipped with smart and secure chip technology, and accepted worldwide for all payments. You can use your First Bank ATM/Debit card safely, knowing your debit card information is never shared with merchants, which certainly helps prevent data theft and fraud. You can manage your First Republic debit card using both Online and Mobile Banking to stay informed about how and when your card is used.

While you can use First Republic ATMs for transactions between your First Republic accounts free of charge, it seems that you can also use out-of-network ATMs with no First Republic fees. As per the information publicly available, ATM owners might still be charge you a fee for using their ATMs, which are not in control or reimbursed by First Republic.

On the bright side, you'll get the first batch of checks for free - but for each additional order of checks, you'll pay a fee that varies depending on the style of checks you select. While rarely anyone uses checks these days, it's still a good thing to keep in mind, we assume. If you ever do receive a check, you can deposit it without having to visit a First Republic branch - the mobile check deposit option is available within the First Republic Mobile Banking app. All you need to do is to take a photo of your check using your mobile device, and submit it. The app also lets you pay bills or send money to someone else. Just like any other mobile banking app.

Overall, there's nothing that makes this account stand out from the crowd and that would justify its monthly fee. It's just a basic checking account. You can consider it if you live in First Republic Preferred Banking Office locations, where you'll at least be able to locate fee-free ATMs more easily. Yet, we don't recommend it, especially if you're a young person yet to receive their first paycheck.

Whether or not you can meet the minimum balance or monthly fee waiver requirements, explore your options prior to deciding to go with this one.

First Republic Classic Checking Account FAQ

1. How can I avoid overdrafts with a First Republic Classic Checking?

First Republic officially has 2 overdraft protection options:

1. Overdraft Protection by Linked Account:

In case you want to avoid overdrafts, you can have a First Republic Money Market account linked to your Classic Checking, so that, if there's not enough money in your Classic Checking balance to cover a transaction, the funds will be transferred from your First Republic Money Market to your First Republic Classic Checking account, and the transaction approved.

Whether other First Republic bank accounts are eligible as part this overdraft protection plan with the Classic Checking, we cannot tell for sure, so you better check with a First Republic banker.

2. Overdraft Line of Credit:

If possible, you can link your First Republic Line of Credit to your Classic Checking to avoid fees when your check is returned due to insufficient funds. It also covers transactions with an ATM/Debit Card or ATM Card. Again, check with the banker whether you can have this included in your First Republic Classic Checking.

2. Will I be charged when using my First Republic ATM/debit card at ATMs?

If you use your ATM/debit card for transactions at ATMs in First Republic Preferred Banking Offices and at First Republic-branded ATMs located elsewhere, you won't be charged any fees.

Yet, you might be charged fees when using a non-First Republic ATM by the ATM owner, which is not something First Republic can control.
