With an easily avoidable monthly fee, unlimited check writing, and digital banking tools, the Regions Bank LifeGreen® Checking Account works just like any other regular checking account out there.

However, Regions Bank's ATM network is quite small when compared with other banks' networks, so if you use ATMs for money withdrawals often, and travel all around the States, you might want to consider other checking account offer, as to avoid unnecessary ATM surcharge fees. Only U.S. military service members get 2 Regions fee-free ATM withdrawals per statement cycle, and that's it.

On the bright side, Regions also offers a cash-back rewards program, so you can earn rewards on eligible purchases. Depending on your spending habits and activity, you will receive offers from various merchants through Online Banking, from where you'll also be able to activate those you're interested in. Once you've completed that purchase, and up to 90 days within the redemption, Regions Bank will credit your cash back to your LifeGreen account.

With decent online and mobile banking tools, security features, and money transfer options, the LifeGreen Checking account is not that bad. If you can meet the requirements to have the monthly fee waived, and if you live in somewhere in the South, Midwest or Texas region, you'll be fine with this checking, if all you need is some basic banking solution, with occasional rewards. Otherwise, you can find much better traditional checking account offers or even better rewards checking accounts.

1. How do I open a LifeGreen Account with Regions?

You can apply online by clicking on the link under the "APPLY NOW" button on this page, or you can make an in-branch or phone appointment, and do it with the help of a Regions Bank representative.

2. Why are there 2 different monthly maintenance fees?

Regions Bank applies 2 monthly service fees to its LifeGreen Checking account based on whether you choose to receive paper monthly statements or go paperless. If you choose to receive monthly statements in mail, you'll pay a $11 monthly fee, but if you opt for eStatements, you will pay less, $8. Both can be waived if you meet the conditions outlined in the LifeGreen Checking description above.

3. What are Service Member Benefits?

U.S. service members who open a checking account with Regions won't be charged any Regions ATM fees on 2 out-of-network ATM transaction per statement period, if they provide their military ID at the time of account opening or later.

Not quite generous, though.

4. How does my Personal CheckCard Visa work?

Your Personal CheckCard Visa is linked to your Regions LifeGreen Checking, and secured by the funds available in your account balance. Your Personal CheckCard Visa can be used for both debit and credit payments, anywhere Visa is accepted.

To start using your Regions Visa, you need to activate it first, whether it be:

  • by phone at 1-800-295-8472 and following the prompts,


  • through Online Banking,


  • at an ATM.

Remember that, every time you use your Personal CheckCard Visa for eligible purchases, you'll earn cash back rewards!

5. How do I earn cash back with the Regions Cashback Rewards program?

As soon as you open a Regions LifeGreen Checking Account, you'll get access to your account through Online or Mobile Banking. When you log in, you'll be able to view and activate offers. Then, simply use your Visa CheckCard to pay for those purchases (make sure to read terms and conditions of each offer), and you'll earn rewards They will appear in your checking account within up to 90 days of redemption.

6. How do I enroll in Online Statements?

Normally, once you've opened a checking account with Regions Bank, and enrolled in Regions Online Banking, you should be automatically enrolled in Online Statements as well. If that's not the case, then you need to sign in to your Regions Online Banking, and select "Online Statements" from the Accounts menu, and then follow the link under "Enroll in Online Statements". Each time there's an online document available for you to check, you'll receive an email.

In addition to electronic monthly statements, you may also receive select overdraft notifications, overdraft protection confirmation/termination notifications, stop payment requests, special paying confirmations, or a notice informing you of changes made to your Regions savings, if you have either a Regions Now Savings or LifeGreen Savings.

8. What is Regions LockIt?

Regions LockIt® helps you control your Regions personal credit cards, CheckCards, and prepaid Now Card by enabling you to decide how, where, and when you use your Regions cards. It protects you against unauthorized charges with the option to lock any transactions you want to block (or unblock) using your Regions mobile app. This feature is great if, for example, you lose your card, since you can block it and prevent its usage with a touch of a button. Also, you can also lock the controls for transactions you want to keep an eye on, so you know when and how your card is being used.

There are 4 card control types available:

1. All Transactions

If you lock this control, your card can't be used for:

  • All purchases (online, in-store, and other),
  • Call Center transfers,
  • ATM cash withdrawals,
  • ATM transfers to deposit accounts,
  • Non-recurring transactions,
  • Credit card cash advances from an ATM, Regions branch or another Visa bank.

When you lock the Online Purchases control, your card can't be used for purchases online, by mail order or by phone.
