Bank of the West Any Deposit Checking Account

Any deposit:

  • to open the account, AND
  • to avoid the monthly fee!

securely on the bank's website

The Bank of the West Any Deposit is a regular checking account offering standard banking products and services, including a free Mastercard debit card, mobile banking app, and free access to Bank of the West ATMs across the States.

This checking account comes with a $10 monthly fee that can be waived so easily: by having any amount of money deposited into your account every month. Any amount! But, if you're aged 25 or younger, you won't pay any monthly fees on the Any Deposit Checking whatsoever.

You can also open an Any Deposit Checking with just about any amount - no minimum opening deposits required either! That said, no other fees or requirements are as low or flexible as the monthly fees and the opening deposit are. For example, while you'll have free access to Bank of the West's ATMs, you'll always pay a $3.00 fee when you make transactions at out-of-network ATMs. Plus, when you travel outside the Untied States, even though you'll be able to use your Mastercard debit card wherever these cards are accepted, you'll be charged foreign transaction fees by both Mastercard and Bank of the West!

Not to mention overdraft fees or NSF fees - luckily, overdraft protection options are available, so in case your balance ever goes negative without your keeping track of it, you'll be able charged a lower fee. Note: you'll have to pay, so, to avoid overdraft fees altogether, never let your balance go below $0.

On the brighter side - and there are many, apparently - Bank of the West's great Mobile Banking app lets you manage your account and bank safely while on the go, knowing you're protected against all kinds of financial fraud! You'll be able to keep an eye on both your Mastercard debit card and Any Deposit Checking account 24/7. Thanks to custom account alerts you can set up to receive notifications whenever something you'd like to monitor happens. Another layer of security is added with different unique sign-in options, such as Touch ID or Face ID, so you can ensure no one but you can access your account. Besides, your Mastercard comes with several key benefits that ensure identity protection and safe shopping. You can also instantly lock or block it via the Mobile Banking app to temporarily pause card activity. Yet, again, this is nothing new, as many other banks offer such or better banking features!

Finally, since you can avoid the monthly fee in such a simple way, if all you need is a basic checking account, a checking account that offers no cash back rewards or that doesn't pay interest, then the Bank of the West Any Deposit Checking might be a solution for you. You should especially consider it if you live in a state Bank of the West has its ATMs and branches. BUT, with so many neobanks, you might also want to consider online checking accounts, which usually come with more perks and almost no fees at all!
